It wasn't just Netflix's own audience watching GTA VI's Extended Look - reaction streams across Twitch, YouTube and Kick peaked at just under 3.97 million concurrent viewers, according to tracking firm Streams Charts. That makes it the single biggest gaming livestream event of 2026 so far, ahead of Summer Game Fest and this year's Nintendo Direct and State of Play broadcasts.
Streams Charts counted roughly 9,000 streamers covering the reveal, racking up a combined 5.2 million hours watched. Twitch carried the biggest share of that at around 44%, ahead of YouTube (about 35%) and Kick (about 20%). Individually, Spanish streamer IlloJuan led the pack with a new personal record of over 233,000 peak viewers, followed by Rubius and IShowSpeed.
The reveal aired at 8pm UK time, and both Netflix and Twitch reportedly buckled under the traffic, with some viewers locked out for 40 to 50 minutes. That didn't dampen the online conversation - over 100,000 chat messages about the reveal were tracked in the surrounding three-hour window, split roughly two-thirds neutral, with negative sentiment (around a fifth of messages) aimed mostly at the outages themselves rather than the game.
Network data from Cloudflare captured the reveal's ripple effect elsewhere online: Netflix's global traffic rose an estimated 16% during the broadcast (45% in the UK alone), Twitch saw a similar surge, and YouTube jumped roughly 39% once the trailer went live there separately at 1am. The biggest single spike, though, was on Rockstar's own website, where traffic reportedly climbed 172% worldwide and over 1,200% in the UK.
Part of the draw was simply how much new information the Extended Look packed in - beyond the visuals and the Jason-and-Lucia story beats already making headlines, outlets covering the reveal also flagged changes to the wanted system and carjacking mechanics, a new romance system, and a noticeably larger game world than previous entries. For a series that's sold roughly half a billion copies since 1997, that's a lot of reasons for people to watch live rather than wait for clips the next morning.
